I have the pleasure of working on Ossio's surgical manuals which instruct the surgeons how to properly use the Ossio system and implants. So let's take a condensed look at what a Haglund's procedure is - I've left out the proprietary equipment. Ossio is an innovator of dissolvable orthopedic implants which restore healthy bone using a strong and bio-integrative material, leaving the body renewed without permanent hardware.
Haglund's procedure is a surgical treatment for Haglund's deformity, a bony enlargement on the back of the heel that causes pain by irritating the Achilles tendon and surrounding bursa. By the way, this deformity is something that can come later in life sometimes due to footwear and exercise choices. It is a very empowering concept to understand that our muscles can influence the shape of our bones.
The surgery involves removing the bony bump, and if the Achilles tendon is damaged, it may also be repaired or detached and reattached.
